The European Union's enlargement to the Balkans has faced challenges due to both issues within the Balkan countries and interference from EU member states. A study examined whether member states have gained more control over the enlargement process, leading to potential roadblocks. The research involved 17 case studies and two theoretical chapters to investigate this shift in control and the factors influencing key national actors' positions on enlargement.
