The article explores what happened to Russian universities in Ukraine during the Ukrainian national movement from March 1917 to April 1918. Some groups wanted all higher education in Ukraine to be Ukrainian, with Ukrainian studies departments in universities. However, most professors didn't agree, so no Ukrainian study courses were added. An attempt to merge two universities in Kiev didn't work out.
