High-density planting boosts maize yield, changing farming game forever.
The study looked at how planting summer maize closer together can increase yield. They tested two maize varieties and found that using a planting mode with different row spacings can boost maize production. When planting density is high, the yield is significantly higher with the big-small row-spacing mode compared to the equal row-spacing mode. As planting density increases, the height of the plants and ears also increases, but the size of individual leaves, weight of plant matter, number of grains per ear, and weight of grains per kilo all decrease.
