New alternative in decision making can completely change original rankings.
The article discusses how different decision-making methods can lead to changes in the ranking of options. The AHP and PROMETHEE methods are commonly used for this purpose. Pairwise comparison, a key part of AHP, can cause the order of options to shift when a new option is introduced. The distributive and ideal models in AHP are powerful tools but can also lead to rank reversal. The article presents proofs and examples of how this can happen and suggests a method to avoid it. Real-life examples and results are provided using software called Experts’ Choice.
