The article looks at how forest management plans based on forest inventories are used in community forestry in Nepal. The researchers studied four community forest groups and found that the plans were not very helpful because the forest inventories they were based on were not very good. They also found that the community managers didn't really use these plans in their day-to-day forest management. However, despite this, the community managers were still able to successfully conserve their forests over time. The researchers question whether inventory-based management planning is actually useful in community forestry.
