Landfill bioreactor trench transforms waste, reduces pollution, and boosts gas production.
A project at the Nanticoke Landfill in NY used a bioreactor trench to recirculate leachate, improving waste moisture and treating it with bacteria. The trench reduced leachate pollutants like COD and VFA, stabilizing the waste. Gas analysis showed good methane levels, but no extra gas was produced near the trench.
