Forest restoration projects worldwide lack consistent criteria for success evaluation. By adapting river restoration standards, a new set of criteria was developed for forest restoration projects. These criteria focus on ecological health indicators to assess project success. However, not all criteria are consistently used, and sometimes socioeconomic values take precedence over ecological health. It is crucial for forest restoration practitioners to prioritize ecological health in their evaluation criteria.
