A study in north-east India looked at how different ways of planting crops affect water use and profits. They tested raised and sunken beds with various vegetables like tomatoes and peas. Using organic mulch helped keep the soil moist. The rice-tomato/pea combo gave the best yields and profits, while rice alone did the worst. The mulch also cooled the soil, helping the plants grow better. Overall, planting rice with tomatoes and peas was the most profitable choice.
