EU citizens are hesitant about Turkey joining the EU. This study looked at why. It found that people who fear Islam and losing their culture are more likely to oppose Turkey's membership. The study used data from a survey in 2001 and found that being Islamophobic and fearing cultural change are linked to being against Turkey joining the EU.
