Healthy grapevines lead to higher yields and better quality wine!
The study compared the growth of different types of grapevine shoots in a vineyard in South Africa. They looked at how well-developed shoots differed from underdeveloped ones in terms of size, leaf composition, and starch content. The well-developed shoots had longer primary shoots that matured earlier, more evenly distributed reserves, and more and larger secondary shoots. They also had larger leaves and a higher potential for producing a higher yield with better quality grapes. Overall, the study found that well-developed shoots are more likely to result in better grape production compared to underdeveloped shoots.
