Improper Water Use Leads to Waterlogging and Depletion of Groundwater
Improper use of water resources can lead to waterlogging and groundwater depletion. At IARI farm in New Delhi, excessive canal water use in the past caused waterlogging, while too many tubewells drilled later led to groundwater depletion. Long-term data showed rising water tables until 1964, then declining due to more tubewells and less canal water. Groundwater is now 14 meters deep in some areas. It's important to study water balance before starting any water projects.
