Regional trade agreements in South Asia are not just about economics, but also about politics and security. Sri Lanka's FTAs with India and Pakistan show that these agreements can improve security and peace between countries. Sri Lanka benefited from military and strategic support from Pakistan during its war in the north, neutralizing pressure from India. Economic gains are not the only motivation for forming these agreements in the region.
