Unsafe drinking water affects over 17 million in rural China.
The survey in Guangxi, China in 2005 aimed to understand the safety of rural drinking water. They looked at water sources, pollution levels, and water supply systems. Out of 475 water samples tested, only 25.68% met safety standards. Bacteria levels were the main issue, with less than 40% meeting the criteria for total coliform. Around 42.9% of the rural population, totaling 17.768 million people, were found to be consuming unsafe drinking water. It was concluded that urgent action is needed to improve drinking water safety in rural areas of Guangxi.
