Parking lot islands defy biodiversity predictions, highlighting need for landscape conservation.
The study aimed to see if island biogeography theory works for land islands in parking lots. They looked at invertebrates in different areas, comparing species diversity and number. The theory didn't hold up, but there were links between species richness and soil moisture, and species diversity and soil temperature. The only area with significant species variation was a natural prairie, showing human changes to the landscape can affect species diversity.
