Organic grass-legume mix reduces weeds, boosts soil nitrogen for sustainable farming.
The study looked at how growing grasses with legumes affects weed growth and soil nitrogen levels. They tested different grass and legume combinations using eco-friendly methods like legume nodules and mulch. Red clover had the fewest weeds, while black medick had the most. Perennial ryegrass was better at fighting weeds than timothy. Soil nitrogen was highest with white and red clover. During the growing season, soil nitrogen increased with red clover, stayed the same with white clover, but decreased with black medick and in control plots.
