New soil salinity prediction method revolutionizes environmental stability in Algeria.
Soil salinity in the Lower Cheliff plain (Algeria) is a big problem due to natural factors. By analyzing satellite images and topographic data, researchers found that soil salinity is related to elevation and a new salinity index called SASI. The study showed that soil salinity is not linked to slope but is connected to elevation when electrical conductivity values are low. The researchers developed a model that can predict soil salinity using elevation and SASI with 45% accuracy.
