Rural Guangdong lacks sewage treatment, posing health and environmental risks.
The study looked at how rural sewage is treated in Guangdong Province. They found that only 0.19% of villages have sewage treatment facilities, with most using anaerobic or ecological processes. Some cities in the province lack basic sewage treatment facilities. The construction cost for these facilities ranges from 100 to 700 yuan per cubic meter, with running costs between 0.01 to 0.1 yuan per cubic meter. The total treatment capacity is 3.6×104 m3/d. The study suggests five ways to improve rural sewage treatment in the area.
