Ecosystem services in China undervalued, urgent action needed to prevent collapse
Scientists in China have been studying ecosystem services since 1997. Most of the research has focused on evaluating these services in different regions and ecosystems. However, this approach has led to limited and sometimes ineffective results. To improve future studies, researchers suggest exploring how ecosystem services benefit human well-being, investigating ecosystem degradation, and understanding the reasons behind ecosystem service decline. By shifting the focus from just evaluation to broader research areas, like human benefits and degradation causes, future studies can provide more meaningful insights on the importance of ecosystem services in China.
