Di Qing Temples Fail to Instill Loyalty in Guangxi Society.
Officials in Guangxi built temples to honor Di Qing in order to strengthen their control over the local society during the Ming and Qing dynasties. They aimed to promote loyalty among the people as part of state ideology. While the Pinghua people worship Di Qing due to their belief that their ancestors came from Qingzhou with him, the Zhuang society has its own beliefs. The temples had more impact on government officials than on the general public.
