Solitary civic engagement activities may not lead to social isolation.
Civic engagement can help older adults stay connected and active in their communities. Some activities involve interacting with others, while others are done alone. Research shows that interactive civic engagement makes people feel more connected than solitary civic engagement. Surprisingly, doing solitary civic engagement is just as good for feeling connected as doing interactive non-civic activities. This means that even when you're alone, being involved in civic activities can still help you feel connected to others.
