Straw Retention in Rice Farming Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Boosts Sustainability
Straw retention and nitrogen reduction in paddy fields in China affect greenhouse gas emissions. A study in the Yangtze River region found that straw retention increased methane emissions but reduced nitrous oxide emissions. The best method was rice straw retention with recommended nitrogen fertilizer, which decreased greenhouse gas intensity by 30.1%. This approach can help lower the impact of straw retention on the environment.
