New Research Challenges Belief That American Schools Are Failing
American schools are often thought to be broken, but this paper challenges that idea. By looking at test scores and school resources, it found that spending more on education is linked to better student achievement. However, this doesn't prove that spending more causes better results. A study on class size showed more concrete evidence that smaller classes can improve student performance. Also, students tend to improve during the school year and lose some progress over the summer. Lastly, completing high school still leads to better economic opportunities. Overall, the belief that American schools are failing and that more resources won't help is not backed up by the evidence.
