Perfectionism linked to depression, but unconditional self-acceptance can help college students overcome this mental health challenge.
This study looked at how being a perfectionist and accepting yourself unconditionally can affect how likely college students are to be feeling depressed. They tested 678 college students using questionnaires about perfectionism, self-acceptance, and depression. The researchers found that striving for high standards doesn't directly link to feeling depressed, but thinking you're never good enough can predict feeling depressed. Also, not fully accepting yourself can partially explain why some perfectionistic students feel depressed. In simple terms, learning to fully embrace and accept yourself without conditions could be essential for students struggling with perfectionism and feeling down.
